Illustrator of “Mookie” Series Now Displaying at Barrington Area Library

Artist Sue Daly displays her illustrations from the Mookie the Cat book series at the Barrington Area Library. Meet the artist on Friday, Dec 10, 7 pm. Proceeds from sales of the books benefit no kill pet shelters. On the shelves at the Barrington Area Library, there’s an autographed copy of the children’s book “Mookie & The Christmas Tree” with the inscription: "For My Hometown Library BARRINGTON! – SW Daly & Mookie (pawprint)." Sue Daly’s hometown library, the Barrington Area Library, will be displaying original illustrations for the book in the library’s “Gallery in The Library” through January 1. Library patrons can meet and talk with Sue Daly at an artist’s reception on Friday, December 10 starting at 7 pm.
How Sue Daly came to be the illustrator for the Mookie series written by Judith Kristen and featuring Mookie the Cat along with Pup Buddy Henley is a tale in serendipity. Just before the call from Author Judith Kristen came, Daly’s own dog had disappeared. Her dog had been gone for three days, and after he returned, Daly pledged she was going to do something to help no kill pet shelters. Daly said, “Just a couple of months later, I received the call from Judith after she had seen my illustrations at the printer the same time another of her books was being printed. She thought my work would be perfect for her upcoming Mookie series. She told me there was one catch – a large percentage of profits from the books would be donated to no kill pet shelters. I got goosebumps.” The collaborative partnership between Kristen and Daly has since produced five Mookie books, and Daly is now at work writing and illustrating her own book to be entitled “Dude Dog’s Dreams” expected to publish in the summer of 2011.
